Rare Morgan replica to be auctioned
A modern copy on the Morgan three-wheelers that were produced up to the late 1940s, the Triking consigned for the Melbourne auction has a 1984 build date, but looks virtually new.
The vendor purchased the Triking from an old friend's estate in Tasmania (where it was fully registered) and has most recently had it running on club registration in Victoria. The Triking will be sold unregistered at the auction.
Power comes from an 850cc Moto Guzzi v-twin motorcycle engine, driving through a 5-speed transmission to the single rear wheel. Given its light weight, the Triking delivers an impressive 90bhp, while disc brakes provide plenty of stopping power.
Triking are still in business today, but production is sporadic, with only around 200 examples believed to have been built since manufacture commenced in 1978.
The unit being auctioned is a rare machine, so should reach its $20,000 - $25,000 estimate.
In addition to this Morgan copy, a genuine and very original Morgan 4/4 'flatnose' 4-wheel roadster from 1937 has also been consigned, with a pre-auction estimate of $25,000 - $30,000.
Shannons Melbourne Autumn Classic Auction will take place at Shannons Melbourne auction house, 321 Warrigal Road, Cheltenham, on Monday, April 29, from 7:00PM. For further details, go to www.shannons.com.au
