THE STORY Among the first automative brands in the world, the Cadillac Motor Division, or simply ‘Cadillac’ is the luxury division of General Motors. Founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, the company was named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac - a French explorer who founded the city of Detroit, Michigan in the US. Historically, Cadillacs have been considered the height of luxury and adopted the slogan “Standard of the World” after winning the prestigious Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England. In 1962 ‘Standard of the World’ wasn’t just a slogan, it was something Cadillac lived and breathed. The company set the bar in terms of desirability, quality, prestige, engineering and styling. As part of the 7th generation of Cadillac, the 1962 Cadillac model was a complete redesign of the previous years. The car had a new grill, front pillar design and a crisp, revised backlight treatment. It also had increased rigidity, more room inside and improved road noise insulation. Standard equipment included 6-way power seats, power steering, dual reverse lights, dual speed wipers with window washers, wheel discs, fender skirts, a remote-controlled outside rearview mirror, a heater and defroster and front cornering lamps. Between 1961 and 1963, Cadillac released the ‘Park Avenue’ variant of their luxury car. A four-door hardtop with a shorter rear deck. The Park Avenue was designed to be smaller to allow easier parking and maneuverability for socialites living in the big cities of New York and San Francisco. In 1962 only 2,600 Park Avenue Cadillacs were built, making it a very rare collectible. THE CAR Imported into Australia in 2023, this beautiful and rare example of a 1962 Cadillac Park Avenue model is finished in fantastic ‘Olympic White’ paint. This is believed to be an original miles vehicle (45,290 on the odometer) and comes with some original books. Powered by Cadillac’s refined 390ci V8 engine (325hp) with 16 overhead valves and a Rochester 4-bbl downdraft Quadrajet carburettor – the car’s power is effortless. The engine is mated to GM’s Hydra-Matic 4-speed automatic transmission which changes smoothly. Aftermarket air-bag suspension has been fitted to the vehicle with tastefully hidden controls and beautiful new wire wheels and whitewall tyres were fitted in 2023. Since being imported work have been undertaken including a new fuel pump, new brakes including wheel cylinders and shoes, strut bar bushes and new rear shock absorbers. The interior is in excellent condition and has just been fitted with brand new premium carpets and door cards. This vehicle comes equipped with a host of features including factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, cruise control and GM’s Autronic-Eye automatic headlight dimming system.
