Very nice restored 1965 Mustang Coupe with rare K-code 289 HiPo Windsor V8 and Top Loader 4 speed manual. Factory rated at 271hp @ 6000rpm these high revving Windsors were considered the hottest small block of the era, and fitted to the newest and lightest coupe of the era created an instant sensation.Special features of the K-code 289 included upgraded pistons, cylinder heads, carburetor, solid lifters and strengthened connecting rods, along with chrome rocker covers and air cleaner. All cars also received as standard the Special Handling Package with the engine option.With production of the 64-65 Mustang exceeding 559,000 cars only 7273 units received the expensive K-code option. That is less than 1.5% of all production making these a very rare and desirable early Mustang.This car was such a strong combination it became hugely popular as a sports and track car, and formed the basis of the first Carroll Shelby built GT350 fastbacks in the first half of 1965. The K-code remained the most powerful engine available in the first 3 years of Mustang production until the heavy S-code 390 big block was offered in the 1967 model year.Fully restored in its original Prairie Bronze paint colour and Black interior this car is noted as an updated '65 model built in Sept 1964. This was a top of the line performance order in its day, built before the Deluxe Pony trim or GT Option group was released later in the '65 model run. Along with the Top Loader 4 speed manual this particular car was also ordered with a low 3.89:1 ratio 9 inch diff.Owned by the same family in the US Northwest since new, this was the first Mustang on Washington's Olympic peninsula and currently shows 80,800 original miles due to being in storage for over 30 years before restoration.
