THE STORY The Ford Falcon XT GT was released in 1968 release and followed the XR Falcon. Driven by a powerful V8 302ci engine and coupled to a 4-speed floor mounted manual transmission, this vehicle set the benchmark on performance and luxury for its competitors. Engine compression was increased to 10:1 and power increased to 230 HP. The car sported a limited-slip differential to improve traction and the car’s brakes (front discs and rear drums) came with dual circuits. Compared to the XR, it featured a revised grille and taillight setup and introduced the Falcon series to split system brakes, a more dynamic tyre setup and electronic windscreen wipers. Wheels were 14 x 6-inch steel and in addition to a few cosmetic exterior features, the interior showcased a wood-grain dash and new carpets. Top speed was reported as 126mph (203km/h). Acceleration was 0-100km in 8.5 seconds. An XT Falcon GT driven by Bill Gates and Jim Bertram scored an outright victory in the 1969 Rothmans 12 Hour Classic race for production cars at the Surfers Paradise International Raceway on 5 January 1969. A team of three XT Falcon GTs won the Teams prize in the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon finishing 3rd, 6th and 8th outright. THE CAR This is a genuine, numbers matching Falcon XT GT. Provenance of this vehicle has been certified with a Deluxe ACCHS Report from Australian Classic Car History Services. This car is approximately the 1,083rd scheduled to be built for this model and was built at the Broadmeadows Assembly Plant in Victoria. It was sold new by Allan Coffey Ford in Dandenong Victoria on New Year’s Eve – Tuesday 31 December 1968. It is 1 of 1,415 built and 1 of 16 with the same build specifications. This car has been treated to a recent respray in its correct Polar White colour and the dash has been fully restored. The original drive line is intact as are all correct GT nuances. The motor is strong, transmission smooth and brakes are excellent. The engine requires the following parts to return it to stock condition: intake manifold, carburetor, air cleaner and distributor. These parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive. Previously registered on club registration in South Australia and from long term ownership. A fantastic example of a rare, blue chip investment – these early Ford GTs continue to rise in value on a continual basis. BE QUICK.
