Seller's Description
Compact Austrian built 4x4 off roader. Sometimes known as the Austrian army jeep. Unique vintage collectable and historic vehicle. Engine runs well, drives but brakes not working at present (missing some brake parts). Has new tyres, paint job and seat upholstery. I’ve also had a new exhaust system, fuel pump and fuel lines put in. The fuel tank has been re-built and some auto electrical work was done to get it up and running. The floor pan was rusted so have patched with sheet metal just so you can sit in it and drive it. Replacement floorpans are available from O.S. and I was going to get one but didn’t get around to it. I bought this in January 2015 from a farm near Oakey, where it had been sitting unused for many years and was in very bad condition and wasn’t running. It started out as a project but I’ve now become too busy with work and other commitments that I no longer have the spare time to finish it. Ideal for someone who’s got the time to work on it and finish it off. This originally had fibreglass doors and a bull bar which I still have. I also have the original fold down front windscreen frame (no glass at present) All of these items will be included in the sale. These can be registered for road use or put on club plates. It would also make a fun off-roader to take on a trailer to the 4WD parks and turn some heads. It will go up tracks that most Landcruisers or Patrols won’t dare try. Also a great alternate to the typical farm vehicle such as a buggy, ATV, quad bike or farm ute. The other bonus is that it will keep appreciating in value not like those other types of vehicles. Interesting facts- Like the horse breed it was named after- it’s good in mountainous terrain. It is small, yet it can carry a heavy load for its size, more than a half-ton. The engine is a rear mounted two-cylinder, horizontally opposed, air-cooled unit. The Halflinger uses independent coil spring suspension front and rear in a swing axle format with about 10 inches of total travel at each axle. Manually engaged diff locks were standard front and rear. These were originally designed for military use. Besides Austria, other militaries purchased Haflingers, including Australia, Britain, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Switzerland. They were also sold by civilian dealers in many different countries. They became popular as commercial vehicles and were useful on the narrow streets of European cities as snowploughs, street sweepers, ambulances and so on. In Australia they were used by the Army as service vehicles for field artillery. They were also purchased by farmers and mining operators. My particular vehicle was originally purchased by its original owner from a Brisbane dealer and worked as a farm vehicle in Oakey until I bought it in 2015. The original colour of this one was beige and the previous owner re-painted it yellow and now I’ve painted it Army green. • The Australian Army purchased 46 of these vehicles in 1968 and used them mainly as field service vehicles for artillery. Various other vehicles were sold to Mining companies and Farmers. • My particular vehicle is a 700APT model. The T stands for (Tropical Equipment) which was an optional extra only offered in the Australian market. It meant that a remote air intake system was fitted. • Specs sourced from factory advertising in “Queensland Country Life” 21st Nov 1968- stated that- “It was developed as a Military “Go Anywhere” vehicle. It will go where no other four-wheel drive vehicle can go” It has a 30Hp flat twin rear mounted air-cooled engine. It weighs around 610kg and can carry a payload of 515kg. It has an approx. top speed of 64km/h . It can handle driving on 65% gradients both up and down and handles lateral tilting angles up to 45 degrees. It has front and rear diff locks. Search Haflinger 700AP on youtube to see videos of these in action. For more info call anytime. I’d also be willing to sell the red tilt trailer (seen in photos) for an extra sum.
