By 1968, Toyota were building Crowns in Melbourne at the AMI factory. At the same time they were fully importing a smaller number of Deluxe models. This is one of the rarer 100% Japanese spec MS55's. Features the big 2M 2253 cc six cylinder motor, bucket seats & centre console and floor mounted 4 speed, quite advanced for 1968. Some of the extra's this import model also came with were front disc brakes, fully tinted glass, signal seeking radio plus additional chrome trim pieces. We purchased the Crown last year from the family of the owner, so not much history came with it. The Crown appears to have had a full restoration/renovation at least 10-20 years ago, with a repaint and full retrim of the interior then. Factory Palmera Grey Metallic respray still has a fantastic shine, with a few age blemishes showing while the interior was completely redone in grey two tone fabric and vinyl and is in very good condition. A dash mat was fitted as the original warped dashpad was removed (replacements are now available). All gauges and lights work and even the heater blows hot. Chrome and stainless are excellent. Polished 14x6inch Samson 5 slot mags with new caps, nuts and new 195/65 tyres set off the look. Mechanically the car is very good with a complete rebuild of the rear drum brakes, plus bearings, axle and diff seals. Front disc pads are as new. A full service and tune, including recent new battery, carbi rebuild, plugs and points, and valve lash adjustment should ensure lots of quiet trouble free motoring ahead. Motor is strong and burns no oil nor blows any smoke that I am aware of. There is a very small oil leak from around the sump gasket. An extensive amount of owners paperwork is included. The Crown is currently on South Australian Club registration which is not transferrable. I usually ignore silly questions and lowball offers.
