The last of the independently developed Triumph saloons, the 2000 and 2500 make for stylish, classic transport today. With a blend of Italian style and traditional British straight-six power plant, the 2000 and 2500 are gaining in popularity and although they’re not priced up there with the more expensive TRs, they’re relatively unusual. Having owned and driven various 2000 and 2500 Triumph variants, my commentary might struggle a bit in the area of objectivity. However, these truly are good cars and very underrated. ABOUT THIS CAR Three Long Term Owners (13 years / 27 years and 11 years) NZ NEW Body straight and paint in very nice condition. Solid construction with a minimum of rust traps helped Triumphs survive for longer than many British designs. Clean around the wheel arches and no bubbling around the windscreen rubbers or sills. Interior is immaculate and factory original. The front seats are big and comfortable, with leather ventilated centers and easily adjusted, reclining squabs. At the rear, one wonders if the seats were ever sat on. Veneer is in very good order. The engine bay is exceptionally clean and tidy and same applies for inside the boot area. This bigger PI engine is an impressively smooth and powerful unit - a real pleasure to drive. Triumph engines are simple, durable and cheap to fix if they do eventually wear out. Good all-round visibility and the quarter vents compensate for pretty ordinary ventilation. Ride quality is brilliant. Advanced for its time, the Triumph suspension is tough and pretty simple to maintain. Don't be scared of taking your Triumph for a gallop through the unsealed countryside either. Unlike most models of their age, these cars lap up the rough stuff and handle corrugations with the same disdain as similarly-suspended Datsuns. In 1970, two Mark 2 PIs distinguished themselves by finishing second and fourth in the incredibly tough World Cup Rally. Comes with spare wheel, original handbook and some service history. Really good examples like this one rarely make their way into the market nowadays and you need to keep an eye out or join a club to come across them. This car is sound in the body and has a decent interior. Virtually everything mechanical can still be bought for it and there are specialists all around New Zealand, who know how to keep them running really well. Authentic PI's can get expensive and expect to pay good money for examples in excellent and reliable condition like this one. We feel this car is well priced for what it is....to find out for yourself, try restoring one for less :) Will be sold WOF'd and Registered if sold in New Zealand.
