She had won my heart. As I watched, via social media, a crazy Dutchman backpacker with a real 'can do' attitude, revive the spirit in her... from a complete respray of paint, to the overkill of mud tyres. It took some deciding, is this the one? But yes, it was meant to be and so off we went, on our very own adventures! Well, while every journey has it's ups and downs and twists and bends. Ours was no different. With common phrases used... like; "oh sh!t Goldie won't start" or "do you smell petrol..?" and the classic "ahh, Spider.!!!"  The odd automotive moments of panic and despair have been heavily outweighed by the exhilarating feeling while taking Goldie places that she'd never been, places on our bucket list and the memorable journey along the way. From the natural wonders of serene coastal beauty, to the city's organised chaos of parallel timed parking, they were all good times in their own special way.  A place for fans of footy, car shows and camping to unite with a beverage or three. Roll up to site, roll out the awning, put on some tunes, and grab the chairs & nibbles... it's time to relax. The dual battery solar setup with fridge sure does come in handy for entertaining! Torrential rain while camping takes perseverance, the odd leak, and the trust that Goldie had our backs... after all she was born in the 70's!! 'Peace man'  No doubt Goldie had lived through some wild times of her own, in her nearly 50 years of Volkswagen history. Hill assents seem challenging, but Goldie is up to the challenge, and she'll get there... eventually! While descents are a thrilling experience, having solid  brakes reassures your somewhat nervous passenger. While the top speed is forever just a rumour, the fact that Goldie's journey actually started in Western Australia sparks even more of an interesting background story... how did a Dutch backpacker end up restoring her in Cairns, Queensland..!? And a Penrith bloke got to live out a dream, with some amazing people and truly incredible memories. Fuel economy is equal to that of your guess is as good as mine, the jerry can is kept on the roof rack for a reason. As is the toolbox full of spare parts, as well as, a beach cabana!.. you just never know. You'll swear & sweat working on her. You'll get a nod or a wave driving her. You'll win hearts instead of trophies. Goldie is much loved, has been well maintained overall, and would benefit  from a little more TLC... she deserves only the best.
