Seller's Description
PRICE CUT: Very rare Maserati convertible in good condition. Maserati’s Biturbo was one of the marque’s most popular models with more than 40,000 made in its 13 year life. Of those, only 210 were the 1988 series-90 as shown here and only a fraction of those - about 110 - were right-hand drive. This very rare convertible (Spyder) example has covered only 58,000 miles from new and was imported with its owner six years ago from the UK. It is being sold as the owner is emigrating. The car has been consistently serviced and repaired, with recent work including the removal of some rust in the sill and door panels, repaint and service and tune (receipts available, along with paperwork dating back to its time in the UK). It is now in good condition. The Biturbo, introduced in 1981 and the first car from new owner de Tomaso, had three body styles - coupe, sedan and Spyder - and one basic V6 engine with two turbochargers. Unlike the sedan and coupe, the Spyders were made by design studio Zagato with production in Milan. The coupe and the sedan were made in Maserati’s hometown of Modena. The car for sale is a later 1988 version with the bigger 2.8 litre V6 (there was a 2.0-litre and a 2.5-litre) and fuel injection, with 186kW (250hp) for a factory-claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds. It has a luxury cabin made of the best soft Italian leather and has briarwood timber veneer as inlays for the round-topped dashboard and doors, with a similar timber used for the steering wheel. It also has a Jaeger-equipped instrument panel. It has a folding fabric roof with manual operation and an faux-suede Alcantara headliner. The Spyder is a two seater though has small rear seat indentations that could accommodate one or two people for a short drive. But there’s no seatbelts. The car has a five-speed manual gearbox (a four-speed automatic was optional) with a dogleg first. The engine and transmission are in very good order, enhanced by a recent tune up. The brakes are firm and strong, and the suspension is equally as firm but the Biturbo feels less like a sports car and more like a well-tied down luxury sedan. This is a typical - and on-going - attribute of Maserati which gives a broader audience to the brand. This vehicle can be inspected in Perth. Additional photographs are available on application. A walk-around video can be arranged. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at buyer cost.
