Seller's Description
The 1995 BATHURST was won by the VR HOLDEN COMMODORE fitted with the 5.0 litre V8, although you could option it with an HSV enhanced unit for 185kW. WHEELS MAGAZINE awarded the VR Commodore 1993 CAR OF THE YEAR. The 1993 VR Commodore Series had than a simple facelift, 80% of the VR was new, the only body panels that were continued, was the roof and door skins. The exterior changes brought an overall smoother body, semicircular wheel arches and the "Twin-Kidney Grill” a Commodore symbol… which has remained up until the 2002 VY model and remains on the HSV variants to this day. The shape was now more aerodynamic the VR was unquestionably superior in every department over previous models. The interior featured a smoother-looking dash and instrument panel, a smaller steering wheel, now fitted with a tilt/telescopic steering column. Now standard on all models were the body computer, tachometer, power mirrors, and gas bonnet struts. There was a new security system, and some minor improvements to the V6, making the engine both smoother and marginally more powerful while reducing fuel consumption. The rear-end had raised tail lights, which were added for safety reasons, and with additions such as the first Australian built car to offer a driver's side airbag, was introduced as an option. The new Acclaim (and Calais) had the airbag fitted as standard equipment, however, it was available across the range on order. To further improve VR safety the features that were included were, • Webbing clamps were fitted to the front seats • Lap/sash seat belt was provided for the centre rear passenger • Anti-Lock Brakes • The Acclaim also boasted ABS and IRS as standard. • New electronic automatic transmission • Driver's Airbag • Cruise Control • New engine/auto computer module (IPCM 6), with a larger memory module which was considerably faster than the previous model. HOLDEN VR SAFETY SPECs recorded in the Used Car Safety Ratings. The findings show that in an accident, VN/VP Commodores provided a "worse than average" level of protection. But, the updated VR/VS models were found to provide a "better than average" level of safety protection. The 1994 Holden VR Series II revision boasted a plethora of improvements such as • Convex passenger side rear mirror • Speed Alert • Warning chime for handbrake on • Warning chime and light for low fuel • Superior cloth interior trims • Red trim on the boot instead of grey (Executive only) • Black grill inserts (Executive) • Series II badges under the front side indicators • V8 optioned models were fitted with a different starter motor • New exhaust manifold for V6 models (an attempt to quieten) The most revered VR was the SS, (apart from HSV models) fitted with the 5.0 litre V8, which you could option with an HSV enhanced unit good for 185kW. The SS featured an integrated brake light within the rear wing, along with an aerodynamic designed rear bumper. The grille was blacked out, and featured red highlights, while fog lamps were integrated into the front bumper. For the upmarket Holden’s, the VR Statesman’s received new front and rear-end treatments, now clearly differentiating them from the rest of the Commodore range. While the V6 was made available to the Statesman with the VQ series, with the VR series Holden now made it also available to the Caprice. 1995 Holden Statesman 4 Door Sedan V8 HSV Enhanced Pkg.
