Jaguar's finest coupe — in terms of safety, features, comfort, drivability, reliability and ease of repair and maintenance — may just be the XK8. Jaguar’s ownership by Ford in the 1990s led to improved financing that led to the brand designing and building its own 4.0-litre V8 engine (also used in the Lincoln Thunderbird, some Land Rovers and the Aston Martin Vantage) mated to the slick ZF five-speed automatic transmission which all sat on the same platform as the Aston Martin DB7. The result is a coupe that evokes the styling of the E-Type, neatly distances itself from its predecessor — the XJS — and is currently a very affordable way to get into the top-end of the brand before the model becomes of interest to collectors. This 1996-built (MY1997) example is ex-Japan and is in very good condition, complete with the original British racing green paint, burl walnut dash and leather upholstery. It recently had its wheels restored, new audio fitted, driver’s seat leather repaired and new front suspension. The car has travelled only 116,000km from new, reflecting its modest driving life and ensuring a long life ahead.
