Seller's Description
TVR is an independent British manufacturer of high-end sports cars. The company manufactures lightweight sports cars with powerful engines and was, at one time, the third-largest specialized sports car manufacturer in the world, offering a diverse range of coupés and convertibles. The TVR Cerbera was manufactured by TVR between 1996 and 2003. The name is derived from Cerberus the three-headed beast of Greek legend that guarded the entrance of Hades. It was offered with the AJP8 (Speed 8) engines of 4185 cc or later 4,475cc. In total, 1,490 Cerbera’s were built. The TVR Cerbera was the third car manufactured by TVR under the leadership of Peter Wheeler (the first was the Griffith and the second was the Chimaera) and was the first hard-top, the first 2+2 and the first to be driven by TVR's own engines—historically, TVR had purchased engines from mainstream manufacturers like Rover, Ford and Triumph This car is fitted with the AJP8 4.2l engine, a lightweight alloy V8 developed by engineering consultant Al Melling along with John Ravenscroft and Peter Wheeler (hence the AJP initials). It is a 4.2 L V8 producing 360 horsepower (268 kW) and gave the Cerbera a top speed of 185 mph (297 km/h). It is a 75-degree V8 with a flat-plane crank. The bottom-half of the engine to the heads were based upon current Formula One engines of the day. In 2000, TVR changed the styling of the car slightly by modifying the headlights to more closely resemble those seen in the TVR Tuscan. This car features the later, face-lifted front with double headlights. Painted in a stunning pale blue metallic with clear gloss overcoat, the paintwork has fantastic depth and glistens in the sun. Offsetting the bodywork is a set of Prodrive Alloy Wheels. According to TVR Heritage in the this TVR Cerbera. was supplied with Power Steering and Aircon and HT (Hide Trim?) in Atlanta / Atlantis Blue (BMW colour) with Prussian Blue leather. It was supplied to Mole Valley Specialist Cars and first registered on 24/10/97 as R256FGO with the first owner’s surname “Shutt”. The registration papers say 2001 so I assume this is when it was brought into Australia It was purchased by a WA owner in 2006/7 who didn’t like the colour so had it repainted in Crystal Topaz the colour the Cerbera currently is. What started out as just a repaint ended up being a complete restoration including all new suspension including every bush or joint along with fully adjustable shock absorbers. All new trim in Cream with black leather was fitted, the Prodrive Alloy wheels, engine rebuilt along with new AP racing clutch, rear diff and gearbox. The entire car was stripped bare and painted, engine out the lot, not a cheap exercise. The front and rear lights were also replaced. Most of parts were bought from TVR Racing Green. Since then the same owner replaced the starter motor. With cream and black leather the interior is a very avant-garde place to be. The dashboard was designed especially for the Cerbera and uses a two-spar steering wheel with minor instruments are located on a small panel below the steering wheel. It is fitted with a Clarion Entertainment system that includes a GPS and Reversing Camera system along with music and features a fold out screen. With only 35,000km, it has recently been serviced and had the steering rack reconditioned by a TVR specialist.
