The GTM marque was launched in 1967 when Cheshire garage owner Bernard Cox and a friend Jack Hosker created the Cox GTM (Grand Touring Mini). The car was mid-engine and the fibreglass bodywork contained more than a hint of Ferrari Dino in its styling.
The Libra which was unveiled in 1998 is a coupe with a removable roof section and a fibreglass monocoque, and was designed to rival the Lotus Elise and the Caterham 21. The finished Libra has over 20 box sections in its design resulting in a very rigid structure. (The Lotus Elise has a torsional stiffness of around 10,000 Nm/Degree while the Libra has been tested to 14,000 Nm/Degree).
Most of the running gear is specifically designed for the car including the fully adjustable, formula one-styled suspension. The only donor parts are brakes and engine (from MG) and wiring loom and side windows (from Rover Metro).
The Libra is powered by an MG KV6 2500cc producing around 150 kW driving through a 5 speed manual transmission. The Libra has a kerb weight of 790 Kg.
Car has covered only 3000km since being built in 2008 and has been lovingly cared for by its owner/builder. This Car has full Australian Compliance and is registered as such with 12 months registration, Any transfer to interstate would not involve having to obtain an engineer’s certificate.
