2012 World Time Attack Challenge is nearly upon us!
In two weeks, Sydney Motorsport Park (aka Eastern Creek Raceway) will be overrun with some of Australia's quickest modified cars, as well as a strong international contingent, all fighting to be crowned World Time Attack champion.
For those not familiar with the Time Attack concept, it's pretty simple - cars race the clock, not each other, with the quickest car at the end of the event declared the winner. There are several categories catering for everything from stock street cars to full-on vehicles purpose-built for WTAC.
More than half a dozen Aussie teams are signed up for the August event, running everything from an Evo 9 to a Lotus Exige and even a Falcon ute! There are also several international teams travelling down under to see what Australia is made of. Re Amemiya, Scorch Racing, Top Fuel and last year's winners, Cyber Evo from Japan are all locked in. ARK Design from the USA, Team Revolutionz from NZ and Redbrick Racing from the UK will also be battling for top time.
With this calibre of international cars and drivers, along with local teams stepping up to the plate, this year's WTAC event is set to be an epic battle of speed. Expect to see more aggressive aero packaging in 2012 as competitors look to improve on last year's benchmark lap times.
The Cyber Evo team will be bringing a refreshed Evo 9 in a bid to retain their 2011 title. Can Cyber Evo's Eiji "Tarzan" Yamada beat his 1:28.85 from 2011 and secure the trophy for the second year in a row? Or will one of the internationals or the local contingent step up to take the win? Better get there yourself to find out!
We can't wait to see the cars in action this August 10th - 11th at Eastern Creek.
