ADVERTORIAL - Classics 1974 Ford XB Falcon hardtop
Classic Aussie muscle, like GT Falcons, Monaros, Chargers and Toranas, have been some of the most popular giveaway cars provided by Classics through their Classics Retro Rewards program. The next one will be no exception. With its custom paint, GT add-ons and beefy wheels, this 1974 XB Falcon hardtop has the “show”, but with a 429 V8 under the bonnet, it’s also got the “go”.

A Coke and a Smile
This Falcon left the factory in ’74 as a 500 hardtop with a 250 six and three-speed column auto. In the early 2010s, it was completely rebuilt, starting with a strip down to bare metal. Rust repair panels were cut from a Mercedes Benz 560SL (the metal is of the same gauge, but superior quality) and the new paint is a unique ‘Coca Cola’ shade that looks black in low light, but has a rich, reddish-brown metallic fleck that really pops.
A GT bonnet, grille and badges have been fitted, while a custom 135-litre drop tank ensures mile after mile of driving smiles! The finishing touch is a set of classic Center Line Convo Pro wheels and BFG tyres in the widest combination the Falcon’s wheelarches could take without tubbing.

(Re) Built Tough
In place of the 250 six, this Falcon now runs a 429 stroker V8 from Powerheads Engineering in the USA. Based on a Cleveland block, the engine includes custom internals and heads, Ferrea valves, a CHI intake manifold, MSD ignition and more, topped with a race-spec Holley Ultra 950cfm carby. Pacemaker headers and a custom exhaust system are fitted, too.
The transmission has been upgraded to a blueprinted Top Loader four-speed manual, while the diff is a Ford nine-inch with an Eaton TrueTrac centre.
Producing 456hp (340kW) at the wheels, this package is said to be good for mid-12s on the quarter mile.

Back in Black
For the interior, the factory white vinyl was replaced with black GT-spec seats and a GT steering wheel, plus a Hurst shifter and AutoMeter Monster tacho. A Pioneer head unit, with a Sony amp and subwoofer in the boot, provides the tunes.
Valued at $200,000, this tough Falcon for the street and strip could be yours, thanks to Classics.
