Ford Mustang sets new Australian sales record
"The Mustang is a dream car for so many, for so many reasons," said Greg Davidson, Ford Australia Sales Director. "We're delighted to help Australians realize that dream, whether it's a top-down Mustang convertible, EcoBoost model or GT V8."
The record result follows increased supply of Mustangs for Australian customers, which has seen delivery times reduced. "We've worked incredibly hard to secure more Mustangs for those who want to realize their dream, and we've achieved that for 1351 customers in May," Davidson added.
Mustang's record month also came after Ford Australia announced the release of a range of factory-backed, fully-warranted parts that can be fitted at Ford dealerships.
The Ford Performance parts include suspension components, upgraded exhaust systems (for the GT) and a short-shifter for the six-speed manual.
"Since its arrival here in late 2015, Mustang has become Australia's preferred sports car," Davidson said. "It's far exceeded our expectations, and we have Australian enthusiast and sports car lovers to thank for this."
A cheeky, irreverent campaign celebrating Mustang was recently launched as a call to arms for those who've been putting off their dreams of owing the world's best-selling sports car.
"We've tried to get to the core of what excites people when it comes to Mustang, and it really is a car that doesn't fit with typical norms," Davidson continues.
"Mustang transcends all sorts of categories - it turns heads in our cities and towns, appeals as broadly to women as to men, and is the car of dreams."
Australia's choice of Mustang so far has been Race Red, with the Fastback body style favoured over the convertible. Following the classic Mustang formula, the V8-engined GT model is the firm favourite, despite sales of the EcoBoost Mustang growing 41% so far in 2017.
Joining the two available powerplants in the future will be a Hybrid Mustang that's currently in development.
