Toyota adds ‘performance kit’ to 86
After offering a performance upgrade on their 86 as part of a limited edition back in June, Toyota are making the components of that kit a regular production option on the sports coupe.
The performance kit, consisting of larger Brembo brakes, specially-tuned Sachs dampers and anthracite-coloured 17-inch alloy wheels, is available on both GT and GTS variants, as well as auto and manual transmission versions.
Brakes are now ventilated 326mm x 30mm rotors at the front (standard GT: 227mm x 24mm; standard GTS: 294mm x 24mm) and 316 x 20mm at the rear (standard GT: 286mm x 10mm solid; standard GTS: 290mm by 18mm ventilated), resulting in a significant increase in swept brake area.
"These performance components will add to driver involvement and enjoyment, whether on the road or the track," said Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb.
A $2,900 upgrade on the GT and $2,200 upgrade on the GTS, the performance kit option arrived at the same time Toyota announced that GT versions will now come with sat nav as standard, while all variants will get an updated multimedia system with Toyota Link connected mobility.
The new standard equipment levels add a price premium, with the 86 now starting at $31,440 for the manual transmission GT version (a $650 increase) and $36,640 for the manual GTS (a $150 increase).
Exclusive to the GTS model grade is a new exterior colour – Moon Slate – that’s combined with two-tone red and black interior trim, as well as a black finish for the wheels, mirror caps and rear spoiler. An 86 with this paint and trim package carries a $39,400 starting price (excluding ORCs).
