XW Falcon GT on offer in SEVEN82MOTORS’ September auction
SEVEN82MOTORS’ latest auction close on Monday, 11 September. The online stock drop auction features 52 high-quality cars, covering restomods, street machines, hot rods and modern performance vehicles. There are some highly desirable classics amongst the consignments, too, including this fully restored Ford XW Falcon GT.

Previously owned by former V8 Supercar driver and current Supercars commentator and technical expert, Mark ‘Larko’ Larkham, this XW GT is a genuine example, backed by an ICAARS certificate.
It was restored during Larkham’s ownership in a painstaking process that took four years and included a handful of desirable upgrades along the way.

Once stripped to bare metal, the GT’s body is said to have been in good condition, minimising the rust removal and other panel repair required. After a repaint in its factory Reef Green, the body received the identifying bonnet paintouts, side striping and Super Roo decals, with the rest of the exterior trim either refurbished or replaced.
Other GT-specific factory features retained for the rebuild include the offset bonnet scoop, bonnet pins, badging and 14-inch 12-slot wheels (5-slot rims were introduced with the GT-HO Phase II).
A front chin spoiler was added during the restoration, which wasn’t a GT feature when new, but rather part of the GT-HO option first offered in the same year this car was built. Like the rear spoiler that was introduced with the GT-HO Phase III, many non-HO GTs have gained a front spoiler over the years.

The 351 V8 in this car is its original engine, and as it’s from early in the XW GT production run, it’s a Windsor V8, not the Cleveland. During the restoration, this engine was upgraded to include an HO intake and 750cfm carburettor. A Toploader four-speed manual transmission is correct for the model, but is not original to this vehicle, as it was factory-fitted with a three-speed C4 automatic. The four-speed sends drive to the rear wheels via a factory spec 9-inch diff with 3.5:1 ratio.

Fitted with Saddle interior trim at the factory, this was replaced with correct-style vinyl in the same colour during the restoration, along with new carpets and, presumably, new hoodlining and door cards, too. Swapping the auto for a manual means the console looks a little different, but the additional instrumentation that defined a GT is all there, along with the GT-specific steering wheel and badging.

According to its ICAARS report, this GT’s colour combination and factory options, including power steering and a push button ‘Super Fringe’ AM radio, made it unique amongst XW GT production.
Soon after the restoration was completed in 2006, Larkham sold this car to the current owner and vendor.

The ICAARS report, along with a verification letter from Ford will be included in the sale, along with the car’s original automatic transmission and induction parts,.
While XY Falcon GTs get most of the attention, XW GTs can be just as collectable and this one’s connection to a Supercars legend makes it even more desirable.
