Seller's Description
The 509 was FIAT’s first small car, released to the world in October of 1924 at the Paris Salon. Mechanically sophisticated with a single over head cam motor of 990cc, full pressure lubrication, four wheel brakes with internal self energising shoes, 12 volt electrics, solenoid start and semi sealed headlamps using twin filament globes. This car, sourced in WA and probably with a WA built body to the blueprint of the Italian two door torpedo tourer has an engine number of 859 and a chassis number of 848, May be 1924 production and could be the oldest and rarest 509 left in the world. A competent restoration of the individual mechanical components was done by Reid Restorations WA. A comprehensive chassis up restoration has been done. Dynamo has been modified to charge through a modern regulator. Upholstery in a brown cord cloth similar to the original. Parts held to go with the car are, a second hand tyre, a magneto, a carburettor and starter motor. A scanned owners handbook and a factory parts manual. Nothing left to do. A reliable rare collector car at a highly comparative asking price. Just completed a trouble free Bay to Birdwood. It is a lovely little car to drive. I am asking $24000.00.
