Seller's Description
Under Chrysler's influence Dodge Brothers released a revised model range in the period 1929-1930, beginning with the new DA Series. Powered by a 208-cid L-head six-cylinder engine developing 63 horsepower at 3000 rpm, the DA rode on a 112-inch wheelbase with styling that generally reflected the trends adopted by the parent company. The bowl-shaped headlamps were mounted on a bowed tie-bar, the bonnet was longer and the wings crowned. Technical innovations included Lovejoy shock absorbers, North-East ignition, a petrol filter and a new exhaust manifold that extended from the front of the engine. Buyers were offered a choice of body styles including a Roadster, Phaeton, Coupe (Business, Deluxe or Victoria), Brougham or Sedan, employing the all-steel “Monopiece” construction technique. Dodge was positioned between Plymouth and Chrysler within the Chrysler Corporation and thanks to the DA, the company reversed the decline in sales to climb back to seventh in the American market during 1929, up from thirteenth the previous year. The DA was also sold in Australia and although it proved popular here, survivors are few and far between. This vehicle is a 1929 Dodge DA Sport Roadster. It wears a roadster body by Richards and cost over $1,800 when new. It wears an older restoration that has been well maintained. It is painted in two-tone Black and Green with pin striping in selected areas. There is a rumble seat, golf club compartment. It recently had all the Brakes overhauled with Stainless Steel components. The linings were all replaced with new material, the Master Cylinder was completely overhauled, the wheel cylinders were all refitted with Stainless steel sleeving and new rubber cups and seals. The head was removed, machined and a valve grind was performed to give new life to this well preserved motor vehicle. The interior Blue trim is as new. The battery was recently replaced. The original service card has the new owner’s name and address from when purchased from the Waymouth Motor Company Ltd, 42 Waymouth Streeet, Adelaide. The car was delivered on the 20th of March 1930 with SA registration number 9490. More personal details will be supplied to the new owner. This vehicle was featured and presented in Veteran & Vintage Cars In Australia by Frank Maguire on page 124 of this printed piece of automotive history. It lists the original purchaser having lived at Goodwood Park, South Australia. Please note: The car is on club registration and as such is not transferable. The car will need fresh fuel and it hasn't been on the road for over a year. Hence the reason for selling it as it does not get used.
