Introduced in late 1935 as a 1936 model, the Lincoln-Zephyr was extremely modern for its time with a low raked windscreen, integrated fenders and streamlined aerodynamic design. The cars were luxuriously appointed and were priced less than the traditional K-series, yet still offered the prestige of a twelve-cylinder engine. The silky smooth, 70-degree V12 was derived from Ford’s venerable Flathead V8, and boasted 110hp from 267 cubic inches. The name "Zephyr" was derived from the Greek word “Zephyrus” which translates to “God of the West Wind”. The Zephyr is credited as the first successful streamlined American car due in part to the prow-like front grille which reflected the popularity of leisure speedboats of the day. The model succeeded in reigniting sales at Lincoln dealerships in the late 1930s, and from 1941 model year, all Lincolns were Zephyr-based. Of the six body styles offered in the Zephyr line up, it is the three-window coupe that is the rarest and most desirable due to its flowing lines and purity of form.
