Seller's Description
1 of 1 right hand drive 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Capri Convertible in Chantilly Green. This car was the top trim level of the flagship car for Lincoln, which is Ford’s flagship luxury brand. This was the very first new model that Lincoln released post-war and was vital in re-affirming Lincoln’s position in the luxury car market to mark post-war optimism and the future of automobiles. It is the last of the Art Deco era of cars. Only 1,230 were ever built, of which 15 are known to still exist worldwide, and of those, 2 are in Australia. This is one of them, the other was last observed in very bad condition, in Victoria, several years ago and has not made a re-appearance since. This is the only right-hand drive example. The cost of sourcing the equivalent from the USA would cost circa $60,000 and sourcing a restored example from the USA costs circa $150,000. Of the 15 that are known in the world, one example is in the late Queen Elizabeth's personal collection, and another was U.S. President Truman’s Presidential vehicle. Truman’s Lincoln now resides at the Truman Little White House in Key West Florida. This car is factory equipped with electric seats, power windows and electric roof. For these features to be in a car that is 74 years old, you can imagine how advanced and luxurious it was for the time. It was the absolute best that the Ford group of companies had to offer to compete with GM’s Cadillac and the Packard’s of the day. This was the flagship car of the flagship marque in Ford’s stable, the pinnacle of luxury for them. It is powered by a 337 cubic inch Ford Flathead V8 which is mated to a 3 speed ‘three on the tree’ manual transmission and runs on LPG. There is a new top for the roof supplied with the car amongst various other parts. It is a project, but engine turns from the ignition and the body is straight and solid. Right Hand Drive conversion was done in Australia. Parts for this car and running gear are available both in Australia and in the U.S.A.
