THE STORY Manufactured between 1954 and 1957, the Jaguar XK140 was the successor to the XK120. This beautiful sports car came with several upgrades, including improved brakes, more interior space, rack and pinion steering, increased suspension travel and telescopic shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design. In addition to these upgrades, the exterior of the car also received some changes, such as more substantial front and rear bumpers with overriders, and flashing turn signals above the front bumper, which could be activated by a switch on the dashboard. A chrome trim strip was added along the centre of the bonnet and boot lid, and an emblem on the boot lid contained the words “Winner Le Mans 1951-3”. Powered by a 3.4L (207ci) Jaquar XK double-overhead camshaft inline-6 engine with Special Equipment modifications from the XK120, the XK140 was capable of outputting 190 bhp at 5,500 rpm as standard. An optional C-Type cylinder head pushed the performance even higher, producing 210 bhp at 5,750 rpm. In 1956 the XK140 became the first Jaguar sports car to be offered with automatic transmission. In total only 8,937 XK140s were ever built, making it an incredibly rare and sought after vehicle. THE CAR Purchased in 1999 by the current owner, this fantastic example of a 1957 Jaguar XK140 was lovingly and fully restored by the legendary late Gavin Sandford-Morgan at the V.M. Engineering Company over a four year period between 1999-2002. Originally a left-hand drive vehicle, it was professionally converted into right-hand drive during the restoration. No expense was spared in bringing this car to life, and extensive records of the work carried out are supplied with purchase. Finished in gorgeous Indigo Blue and with gleaming chrome work, this Jaguar is in fantastic condition inside and out and is sure to impress. On the inside, the Grey Leather trim complements the accompanying blue carpet beautifully and looks sensational paired with the polished wood-grain dash, steering wheel and door edges. All instrumentation and electronics are in working order, and an aftermarket Kenwood head unit has been installed as well. An extremely tight package, this car handles beautifully, boasts excellent power with the inline-6 engine and has a wonderful exhaust note. She is badged as a ‘Jaguar Type C’ indicating the presence of the optional C-Type cylinder head with more performance. The brakes have recently been overhauled, and the car has been equipped with an electric fuel-pump and a hard-wired trickle charger. A soft car cover is included with the vehicle.
