Seller's Description
I am selling this beautiful and rare Packard Clipper Deluxe on behalf of one of my elderly friends. He has reluctantly decided it is time to reduce his collection. Originally built right hand drive in Detroit Michigan USA and, we are told, imported along with only 12 other Packards into Australia in 1956. The car has spent most of its life in the hands of enthusiasts in Victoria, and only snuck over here around 12 months ago. This Clipper is very well known to Victorian Packard Club members. The car comes with an extensive amount of records and paperwork, included a genuine owners handbook and appears to have been fully restored back in the mid eighties, plus had a mechanical overhaul again approximately 10 years ago. I myself personally saw and photographed this car at a show in Melbourne around that time. It was a head turner. The Midnight Blue paint and body are untouched since the restoration and show some wear and tear as you'd expect after 33 years but still looks great. Chrome and stainless look to be in excellent condition. Glass is nice with a brand new tinted windscreen fitted in Adelaide last year. The two tone black and off-white interior has held up well following the complete retrim at time of restoration. Updated Klippan brand seat belts are fitted throughout. New CD radio is hidden in the centre glove compartment. The Packard 352 V8 motor and Ultramatic transmission have had various components replaced, plus steering, suspension and power brakes have been rebuilt, a new radiator and generator fitted, all within the last 10 years. A brand new Edelbrock 4bl carbi was fitted for reliabilty then. The unique electronic torsion self leveling system now works as it should following a recent service, plus there is an override switch fitted to manually raise and lower the rear end ( google that one for more info ). The stainless steel twin exhaust emits a great V8 burble. Factory LSD keeps you on the road! As noted earlier there are plenty of documents to back this all up. The genuine whitewall tyres have plenty of tread left while the good old Aussie Smiths heater/demister keeps you warm. The trunk is absolutely jam packed with spare trim, lense, parts etc removed from a couple of wrecks over the years. There is great parts back up and support through the Packard Automobile Club in Australia plus plenty of access to NOS and repro stuff from USA. The car passed through our Government ID inspection with no problems early last year and is currently Club Registered in South Australia. Phone enquiries are welcome- oh four oh four 036439 - as I tend to ignore silly email questions and low-ball offers. We are seeking a CASH sale but a trade SPECIFICALLY on a 1960's era Buick or Oldsmobile in great condition is a possibility. This car would be a great alternative to the finned Chevrolet Chrysler or Ford of the era. I have sold plenty of my cars interstate and am more than happy to deliver the Packard to your Adelaide transport yard if required.
