JUST CARS & COFFEE makes a BIG debut
JUST CARS have launched their own Cars & Coffee events, with the first held in Samford Village (northwest of Brisbane) on Sunday, 9 February. Supported by BGS Classic Cars, Avant Garde Financial Brokerage P/L, The Plate Bracket Co. and Just Pro Tools, the debut JUST CARS & COFFEE attracted more than 250 cars.

As evidenced by the morning’s turnout, the car community in Brisbane and surrounds is strong. Diverse, too, with everything from classic Aussie muscle to high-performance, late model Ferraris filling the car park. For rarity, there was a Maserati Biturbo on show, as well as an XW Falcon ‘Surferoo’ ute. Predating Holden’s Sandman by almost four years, only a handful – allegedly less than five – of these were built by Ford back in 1970. The Surferoo at JUST CARS & COFFEE was the same unit that featured with JUST CARS back in 2011.

Being a Queensland show, it was no surprise to see a bunch of convertibles – Mazda, Lotus, BMW, Jaguar, MG, Caterham, Volkswagen and more – with their tops down, but the C1975 Buick LeSabre Custom ragtop was a surprise. Around 5,300 of these were built in ’75, after which Buick stopped convertible production for seven years. There are very few LeSabre Custom survivors today and even fewer in Australia.

A genuine RHD Rambler Javelin was a nice sight, as was a healthy representation of Alfa Romeos and a lineup of Land Rovers that included an ex-Army ambulance. An HG Holden sedan converted into a pillared coupe attracted plenty of attention, as did a big, bold Mercedes G-Wagen, especially as it towered over a diminutive VW Beetle!
Speaking of diminutive, a tiny Austin 7 with plenty of patina was another highlight, while some show-quality US and Aussie restomods stood out for different reasons.

If you didn’t come to the show in a cool ride, you could have left in one, as BGS Classis Cars had several of their current For Sale stock – Chevy Corvette, Triumph TR6 and Ford Fairlane Skyliner - ready and waiting for new owners.
Thanks to BGS Classic Cars, Avant Garde Financial Brokerage P/L, The Plate Bracket Co. and Just Pro Tools for making our first Cars & Coffee such a success. And thanks to Spokes Café for keeping everyone caffeinated!
