For Sale is this beautifully presented 1964 Peugeot 404 sedan. 1.6 Litre petrol 4 speed column shift manual. Silver blue metallic. Red interior is near perfect, seats are excellent. Engine runs smoothly with no smoke and the car drives well.
Have recently spent a lot of time and money on ensuring the car is mechanically spot-on including a new 600cca battery, fully rebuilt brass radiator (cost $500), new radiator hoses, all fluids flushed/changed and a general service.
Car is very original with only a few modern concessions such as retractable seat belts, alternator (original dynamo included), fuel catalyst (for unleaded fuel) and a new retro style AM/FM/MP3/Bluetooth stereo (with aux, USB and SD card inputs). Whitewall tyres have plenty of tread left. Car was previously on historic registration but has been transferred to regular SA rego and is registered until October.
Included with the car is a large box of spare parts including new filters, spare rubber seals, spare hoses and other items such as a spare grille and window glass. Also included is a heavy duty car cover. Car was fully restored approx. 10 years ago by Sporting Car Club SA member and has attended many SCCSA events.
Being an older restoration there are few minor rust bubbles starting to appear when you look right up close. It’s not perfect but overall the paint and body are in excellent condition and the car is spotlessly clean and tidy throughout.
The 404 models forged a reputation for legendary reliability and durability, winning the East African Safari Rally 4 times. It is a wonderfully practical and reliable classic. Asking $6800 or near offer. You won’t find a cheaper early 60’s classic in such good condition and ready to drive away (especially one that’s styled by Pininfarina and so reliable!).
