THE STORY In April 1964, Ford introduced the Mustang, the most successful model launch for Ford since the Model A. All sales records were smashed with 22,000 cars being sold on the first day. Within a year, 418,812 Mustangs were sitting in driveways throughout North America. The car created the “Pony Car” class of American muscle cars, affordable sporty cars with long hoods and short rear decks. Buyers could choose from a number of different options including engine size, transmission type, interior upgrades, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. Today the car’s classic styling is still relevant and desirable and demand for good examples remains strong. THE CAR An immaculate resto-mod Mustang that was the subject of a full rotisserie restoration 10 years ago which included being professionally converted to right hand drive. The VIN and data plate reveals this is a very early 1964 ½ Mustang that originally had a 260 ci Ford V8 engine but now boasts a 302 ci V8 power plant with a stunningly presented engine bay, oval air cleaner and Monte-Carlo bar. Power is put to the road via a smooth-shifting C4 automatic transmission and the car sits on gleaming styled-steel wheels clad in white wall tyres. Finished in a deep and stunning Monza Red, this car features tasteful modifications designed to make it more useable and reliable including power steering, power disc brakes, cruise control, central locking, hidden remote boot release, air conditioning and modern gauges in that read in kmph. Inside the car has been upgraded to red and white Pony interior with pistol grip door latches and the wooden steering wheel sets of the driver’s position beautifully. The power convertible top is white and comes with a matching parade boot. All chrome and stainless steel is in outstanding condition and the original early honeycomb pattern grill is present. The GT fog light option has been added to set off the front of the car and a center console has been added. The dual exhaust system has twin chrome tips on each pipe and has a wonderful V8 note.
