-Matching numbers
-1 of 1806 produced by AMC
-1 of 4 imported to Australia
-Powerful 287ci 4.7L engine
-Body 489/1806
-Low mileage example
The Rambler Classic 770 (AMC) was an American build as the successor of the Rambler Six. A total of 1806 vehicles were manufactured as soft top convertibles in 1966 and are a rarity in assembled condition. This example stands as one of four delivered to Australia since has been complied to have previous NSW and WA registration.
Prior to its import to Australia, it was delivered new to Springfield Rambler INC, Springfield, Missouri in 1967 and since has only had three owners. In 2001, this vehicle won the Rambler Car Club ‘Best car people’s choice of 1966’ and from then has been on show as part of a collection in WA.
Featuring the top-option 4.7L 287ci V8 engine and paired to a 3-speed Flash-o-matic automatic transmission, this vehicle offered power, performance and luxury to the market in its era. This example presents largely original and is fitted with the period correct 14” rims. As the powered soft top release of the 770, these were highly desirable and best appreciated in warmer weather.
Finished in a factory optioned ‘Frost White #2’ this 770 convertible presents in excellent condition overall. The exterior styling of the vehicle features polished chrome work and rims, original badging and white tyres and stood without question as the most eye-catching release by Rambler at the time.
The interior presents immaculately for its age and features upholstered bench seats in a black matching, pleated vinyl and was fitted with lap belts front and rear. This example features all original dash instrumentation and shows minimal wear inside. The conservative styling of the vehicle offered better manoeuvrability and fuel economy to its predecessors and was rare to see on the road.
Accompanying this vehicle is the 1966 original owner’s manual, previous registration papers, owner’s maintenance program and two trophies. An example with such limited production is collectible, highly desirable, rare and would make a sound addition to any Classic Rambler Collection.
The Rambler classic was manufactured by American Motors Corporation (AMC) between 1961 and 1966. The ‘Classic’ release took over the earlier production of the Rambler Six and the Rambler Rebel, from 1960. Classics received a full redesign with attentive reconstruction to the styling of the roofs from 1966. Alongside the release of the convertibles, the body was also offered as a 2-door hardtop or offered as a ‘Rebel’ badged 2-door hard top.
