1968 ford falcon xt gt 3 sp automatic 4d sedan
Seller's Description
THE STORY Launched in February 1968, the Ford XT GT was a significant milestone in Australian automotive history, blending muscle car performance with everyday practicality. The XT GT was part of the second-generation Falcon range and carried forward the legacy of its predecessor, the XR GT, while introducing several refinements that set it apart. In terms of design, the XT GT featured a clean, understated look that combined boldness with elegance. Its sharp-edged styling and squared-off body lines reflected the growing preference for a more modern aesthetic in the late 1960s. The addition of dual driving lights, unique GT badging, and signature gold stripes along the body made the XT GT instantly recognizable on Australian roads. Under the hood, the XT GT packed a 4.9L (302ci) V8 engine capable of producing 230 horsepower. The car offered thrilling acceleration and effortless cruising ability, making it a favourite among enthusiasts. Its enhanced suspension system and power-assisted disc brakes on the front wheels improved handling and safety, further solidifying its reputation as a true driver's car. Only 1,148 units of the XT GT were produced, making it a sought-after collector's item today. With its combination of performance, style and rarity, the 1968 Ford XT GT remains a symbol of Australia's muscle car golden age. THE CAR Finished in classic Silver paint with a complimenting black interior, this Ford Falcon sedan has been lovingly refurbished and restored as a 1968 Ford XT GT Tribute vehicle. This car has had extensive work completed on it from the ground up as follows. The engine is a fully rebuilt HO block 302ci Windsor V8 with Edelbrock heads, Crow roller cam, and Crane roller rockers and lifters. All engine components were restored or replaced including an Edelbrock 750 4-barrel carburettor, MSD blaster 2 ignition coil, new starter motor and alternator, new ignition leads, sump, thermostat and oil pickup unit. The cooling system consists of a new aluminium radiator with genuine radiator look, a reconditioned heater core and all new hoses. The fuel system includes a new petrol tank, fuel pick up and sender, a ½ inch fuel hardline and a Holley high-volume mechanical fuel pump. The 3-speed C4 automatic transmission has been reconditioned and is equipped with a B&M transmission deep aluminium pan, 2500-RPM stall torque converter and a BandM Super Cooler transmission cooler. The car has been fitted with a new tailshaft, a 3-inch mild steel single exhaust with Hurricane extractors and a Lukey Super Turbo muffler. A 9-inch differential featuring a Detroit Locker Centre with 3.5 gears and Moser 31 spline axles has also been installed. The brakes have been completely rebuilt and feature a NOS genuine XT disc brake master cylinder alongside a brake booster, new rear wheel-cylinders, new hard and soft lines, XY style vented disc rotors, bearings, rear brake linings, rear drums and new pistons and seals fitted to Kelsey Hayes brake calipers. The suspension has been fully redone including Monroe gas front and rear shock absorbers that have been set to XT GT specifications, Pedders XT GT height front coil springs and all new bushes and tie rod ends. The body was purchased as an original low-miles car (approximate 79,000 miles) and has been treated to a bare metal rotisserie restoration with many NOS panels. All body cavities have been waxed and new door and boot rubbers, catches and hinges have been installed. The interior of this car is immaculate and is practically brand new throughout, featuring new carpet, retrimmed seats, door cards, re-chromed front seat mechanisms and an all-new modern instrument cluster. The attention to detail in this restoration is stunning, the owner has even gone so far as to recondition the front seatbelts with certified webbing and sewed in certified tickets. Since the full restoration, this car has been driven less than 2,000 kms. In 2017 she was entered into the Wayville Extreme Horsepower Show and won a first-place trophy in the Street Machine class. A significant amount of work has been completed on this gorgeous tribute vehicle, and the list of changes, upgrades and restorations is too extensive to list here. A detailed list of all work done is available upon request. Currently on historic registration in South Australia - the car retains its original plates.
