Seller's Description
This is a South Africa delivered Austin Mini van, so it differs slightly to the Australian delivered cars. Most noticeable is the fixed front grille in pressed steel, rather than the removable chrome one. As the vans were utilitarian by nature, the South African ones came without any creature comforts like door cards, dash backing etc. This van has had a fresh restoration. The body was stripped back completely, and taken down to bare metal. The only rust found was in the drivers floor and sill panels. These were professionally cut out and replaced with new panels from the UK. The body was repainted in its original Clipper Blue colour. The panels are straight and the car presents well. New door and window seals were refitted during the assembly process. Mechanically the van is very good. The engine has been completely rebuilt, with a rebore, new pistons, rings, bearings, clutch etc. There is less than 2,000km on the new engine. The generator has been upgraded to an alternator. New wheel bearings have been fitted all round with new brake linings, cylinders, brake lines and silicone brake fluid. New CV joints have been fitted as well as new seals on the diff output shafts to fix any oil leaks. Finally, a complete new OEM exhaust has been fitted from front to back. Suspension wise, new polyurethane bushes have been fitted all round together with new shock absorbers, tyres and new OEM hubcaps and wheel trim inserts. New ball joints and adjustable lower control arms complete the suspension work, so everything is pretty new. That brings us to the interior. New carpets, new headlining, seats professionally redone in black vinyl, new OEM seatbelts, new battery and the original jack and wheel-spanner complete the sparse interior. All electricals work with the exception of the fuel gauge. We have fitted a new sender unit in the tank and ordered a new voltage stabiliser. We are unsure if the fault lies with this or the actual gauge itself, but this is a minor fault that should easily be rectified. We have also recently fitted a new lockable petrol cap. Pretty much everything has been repaired or replaced on this van. Whilst not "concourse", there is very little left to be done to this little gem. We currently have her registered on NSW Historic Registration and will take her over the pits in the next while to ensure that the next owner won't have any issues with registering her. An original parts and workshop manual come with the car.
