Seller's Description
THE STORY The fourth in the series of Falcon GTs was released in 1970 by Ford Australia to widespread acclaim. 1557 XY GT Falcons were produced between September 1970 and December 1971 at the Broadmeadows facility in Victoria. Power was supplied by a Cleveland 351ci (5.763 litre) V8 engine which was carried over from the Falcon XW GT. The shaker hood containing the air intake protruded menacingly through the bonnet. The compression ratio was a healthy 11:1 and these powerplants had a stated output of 300 horsepower to satisfy insurers, however the real figure was estimated at 350 horses. Fuel was delivered via a 4 barrel Autolite 600cfm carburettor and a four speed manual or three speed automatic transmission were available. Ford’s legendary 9 inch LSD traction lock differential was standard. The XY GTHO Phase III was built for homologation and looked almost identical to the XT GT. Driven by Alan Moffat, the car won the 1971 Bathurst 500 (also came 2nd, 3rd, 5th & 6th) and also won the 1973 Australian Touring Car Championship. The Ford Falcon XY is now widely regarded as the best Falcon made in Australia, not just because of its racing pedigree but also because of its build quality, refinement and road going performance. THE CAR Classic Motor Studio is proud to present a rare, original XY Falcon GT that comes with all history, service books, owner’s manual and documentation dating back to 22 December 1970 when the car was first sold. A Deluxe ACCHS Report dated 28 January 2018 is to hand verifying this vehicle as build number 431 with a build date of November 1970. This car was serviced at Dick Johnson Automotive (“Shell Westbound Service Station”) from 1973 until 1983 and all receipts are to hand. Originally delivered to Sunny Bank Brisbane by McCluskey Ford Pty Ltd, this vehicle is finished in beautiful Bronze Wine with contrasting light saddle trim. It is 1 of 119 with this paint colour and 1 of 58 with this paint and trim combination. In outstanding condition, the exterior, interior, engine bay and underbody are all highly detailed and correct. Original stickers, tags and paint marks are in place as can be seen in the photo gallery. The radiator support has the original VIN stamping. The engine bay was restored in 2001. This example is optioned with air conditioning, power steering, a laminated tintband windscreen and seat belts (mandatory). Originally an automatic car, a replacement correct 4 speed manual transmission has been installed, however the original automatic gearbox comes with the vehicle. At some point in the past, the original 351ci engine was replaced with an alternate, correct Cleveland block and again, the original block is to hand and comes with the vehicle. The car originally had a beige vinyl roof that was removed when it was restored. A set of new redline tyres will go with the car – they are not shown in the photo gallery as they are on order. The data plate decodes as follows: T = 351ci 4 BBL B = Floor Shift Automatic 2 = Bronze Wine Paint S = Light Saddle Trim Model Code = 18038 = 1970 XY GT Build Date = November 1970 Your chance to own an investment grade piece of Australian Automotive history with outstanding provenance rarely seen.
