1971 volkswagen microbus samba samba 4 sp manual 4d mini bus
Seller's Description
THE STORY Manufactured in 1971, the Volkswagen Type 2 ``Microbus`` Samba was the top-tier version of VW’s second-generation Transporter lineup - often referred to as the ``T2a`` or ``Early Bay”. With its iconic panoramic windows, distinctive two-tone paintwork, and roof-mounted sunroof panels, the Samba model became an enduring symbol of freedom and exploration during the 1960s and early 1970s. The Samba’s most distinguishing features were its 21 or 23 windows (depending on configuration), which included eight skylight windows integrated into the roof and stylish “jail bar” trim in the rear. A large canvas sunroof was standard on most models, designed to open the cabin to the sky—perfect for scenic drives along the coast or cross-country road trips. The 1971 model year marked the end of the simpler “Early Bay” era, before the 1972 introduction of more heavily regulated bumper designs and other structural changes. Today, well-preserved examples of the ’71 Microbus Samba are considered among the most collectible of Volkswagen’s classic vans, prized for their purity of design, cultural significance and timeless charm. THE CAR Imported into Queensland in 2021, this fantastic left-hand drive 1971 Volkswagen Microbus Samba was immediately purchased by the current South Australian owner. This Microbus is stunning and is presented in its original paint colour of Orange Red and Chocolate Brown with a beige interior trim. The 4-speed manual gearbox has been fully rebuilt, and the front wheels have been upgraded with disc brakes for enhanced braking performance. The inside of this Microbus is a striking blend of vintage style and modern comfort with the inclusion of new curtains, a custom sound system with radio and the subwoofers and amplifier hidden under the seats. A fantastic wooden steering wheel has been added as have custom cup holders, USB ports, a refrigerator and a built-in wooden shelf with LED lighting where miniature Kombi Van models are currently displayed (included with purchase). There is also a dual-battery setup to accommodate the additional power required for all the accessories. The roof of the vehicle features a Webasto-style folding sunroof that spans most of the length of the vehicle. There are two aluminium roof-racks that currently house a vintage-styled surfboard which is included with the sale. Also included is a wonderful 1950’s aluminium suitcase.
