Seller's Description
This is an awesome example of a high quality XB Falcon Coupe that has been built to be driven! The car started life as an original Pepper Red 302 V8 GS Falcon Coupe and has been transformed over a number of years to the car you see today. Inspired by Eric Bana’s car that was the subject of the documentary film “Love the Beast” this car was built as a more streetable tribute to Bana’s original Beast. Purchased by the current owner in 2011 as a nice driver quality original coupe, the transformation began with a cosmetic make over. The bumpers were colour coded, GS striping removed, minor paint and rust repairs performed. The original wheels were removed and the same wheel builder who made the original wheels for the Beast was tracked down to make an exact same set for this car. It is believed that this and Bana’s originals are the only two cars to wear these wheels. Gt grills and spot lights were added and the brakes were upgraded to a big set of Baer disks all round. The car was driven around in this form for two years before it was decided that it should have the power to back the look.
Phase 2 of the rebuild began in 2013 when the standard 302 was removed in favour of something more exciting. A Ford Performance crate engine was sourced for the car and sent to Pavtek in Victoria to be built with the full treatment. While there is too much to list individually, the end result is a tough 393ci stroker which on the dyno at Pavtek, made a healthy 497hp with dyno sheets to back it up. Full receipts and engine specifications are available with the car upon request. The engine was paired with a new Tremec TKO-600 5 speed manual transmission. While the engine and trans were out of the car, the entire front end was removed and the engine bay stripped back to bare metal for a freshen up. Likewise, the whole underside of the car was stripped to ensure that everything was solid with no rust present before being freshly coated in a clean coat of black. A serpentine belt kit was added to the car along with upgraded air conditioning. A PWR radiator was also sourced and pairs with electric thermo fans to keep things cool. A custom drop tank was made to hold the fuel and fitted up under the rear. A full 3” stainless exhaust system was custom fabricated and ensures that the beast sounds as good as it looks. The result of all of this work means that the car is super solid underneath and while not built with the intention of being a show car, it’s certainly very tidy when up on a lift.
The entire interior was given a make over, but this time instead of going for the stripped out look with roll cage like the original beast, a very tidy street focused interior was opted for. The seats, carpets, headlining, and dash all received the treatment. Vintage air conditioning keeps temps nice inside the cabin on hot summer’s days. A nice subtle stereo was installed to ensure you can listen to some tunes while banging gears up that windy road.
The car was completed in August 2015 and debuted at the Gold Coast Car show where the car won best modified in it’s 1971-1975 category. The car has a large file documenting the build and receipts for many of the parts used. The owner also published an 80 page hard cover book as a momento of the build of the car which is available to the new owner as an important part of its history. The car was built to be driven and enjoyed, and while it fits in very well at car shows, it’s most at home burning up mountain roads. A well built coupe for someone who wants to get in and go, someone who enjoy’s the drive and ultimately, someone who loves the beast!
