Seller's Description
This is a beautiful and impressive car in near original condition with a very short list of issues most of them quite minor. It is very enjoyable to drive and, in the past, has been featured in Anzac parades, local paper articles and numerous car shows. This ad is actually for two 1974 164 E Volvos. A fully permitted and driveable one with its own parts car. I have owned the permitted car for more than 10 years. The parts car has had parts taken off it, however still turns over and runs beautifully. Volvo 164 E 1974 Is Ruby red. Permitted and driveable. I am the fourth owner and she is in as much as original condition as she was when I purchased her 10 years ago. Original low kms. Original interior in fair condition. Paint job is in very good condition. Front panel has some chips in it. Some other small indents around body, can be seen, but hey she is in her mid-40's! Original chrome trims and rims. Previous owners have installed chrome headlight rims and, headlight wipers {These do not currently work. I have had it investigated the small motor has burnt out. It may be advisable to rewire with separate switch}. The interior is fair to good. With the driver’s seat being the most worn and has one splitting seam. They also installed gas. Runs beautifully on gas. This car currently has only one major issue which is it isn't running on petrol. On investigation the pressure at the fuel tank is too low. The fuel pump and inline filter have also been replaced. It is believed this problem has come about from the car sitting around. The other issue that has come to my attention is with the speedo. I recently had the speedo cog replace {from the other car} as it was worn out. The speedo still jumps around a lot. Possibly the cable is about to snap. This is a minor issue and doesn't impact how the car drives. Another minor issue is it appears the transmission dipstick is too short! Resulting in too much fluid being put in on refilling this just spills out the over flow. Some mix up has happened over the years. I have recently, Feb 2019, had this confirmed by transmission specialist as being the underlying issue. So really a non-issue! I do not have time, motivation and money to trouble shoot it any more. These are things I am sure a new owner with mechanical knowledge could tackle quickly. It has a Panasonic stereo with cd mp3 player- no blue tooth sorry. There are decent Volvo brand speakers on the back-parcel shelf. Radio and aerial works, ciggie lighter works. I am unsure about the air con I have never had it tested or regassed. Recent work includes: Diff service 2018; Transmission service 2019; Speedo repair 2019; Tune to gas 2018; New steering bush 2018; Radiator flush 2018. Replacement of Petrol pump, filter and emptying of petrol tank 2017. I can provide links to videos of cold starts on request. Comes with original manual and log book. I have a folder full of receipts for work I've had done over the years. Will pass safety inspection for club permit no worries. Unsure about roadworthy for full registration.
Car no 2 : Spare parts car. This is also a 1974 164 e Volvo. It is white/ cream. Running perfectly on petrol. In fact it purrs so nicely I would almost be tempted to say it runs better than the permitted car. The radio is there {not original} but not installed. Starts first time every time. The catch. Some fool has in the past stored her in a paddock under a tree and the paint job is ruined. Her rear left brake appears to be seized. Her transmission is leaking significantly I believe it is just the gasket. A number of aesthetic parts have been removed and it has donated its window washer hoses and speedo clog to the permitted car. Currently it has a full near new leather interior. If I don't sell this first it can go to the cars buyer.
