Seller's Description
1974 AMC Rambler Matador X Coupe
The Matador coupe was introduced in 1974, under the direction of AMC's vice president of styling, Richard Teague and racing car driver Mark Donahue. Matadors were a popular vehicle for police, as they outperformed most other police cars. They were also featured in many television shows and movies during the 1970s, including a feature in The Man with the Golden Gun, a James Bond film released in 1974
The 1974 model year introduced an aerodynamically styled fastback coupe with pronounced "tunnelled" headlight surrounds.
The Matador coupe was sold in export markets under the Rambler badge, with right-hand drive versions assembled using CKD kits by Australian Motor Industries in Port Melbourne and Campbell Motor Industries in New Zealand.
This particular 2 door coupe is still powered with the AMC 360 V8 engine and factory automatic transmission. Engine and driveline are healthy, and the coupe handles and stops well.
The excellent condition of the paint and leather interior is a testament to the care the previous owners have taken. The car has been owned by a collector and automotive enthusiast for the last 10 years, always garaged and maintained to a high standard with preservation in mind.
A total of 145 Matadors were sold in Australia during 1974 making this a very rare vehicle.
