THE STORY The C4 Corvette represented a clean break from the previous C3 model, with a completely new chassis and sleeker, more modern styling. Beneath the fiberglass skin was a fully independent suspension, the choice of a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission and the race-proven 5.7 Litre V8 with Tuned-Port Fuel Injection and lightweight aluminium cylinder heads. Bilstein Selective Ride Control was now available which allowed the driver to select from one of three levels of ride firmness (Touring, Sport or Performance). Standard equipment included air conditioning, Delco AM/FM stereo with cassette tape player, leather-wrapped Comfort-tilt steering wheel, driver’s airbag, power door locks, power windows, electronic speed control, halogen fog lamps, front and rear cornering lamps and power windows. Inside, the bucket seats were deeply contoured with a leather sports option that included power seats and lumbar support. THE CAR A personal import from the USA to Victoria in 2022, this beautiful 1987 C4 Corvette Convertible is finished in stunning Flame Red metallic paint, with an upgraded interior featuring wood-grain accents and a tan convertible top in great condition, which is only four years old. Showing 63,383 miles – it is an original low-miles vehicle driven mostly on the highway. She is equipped with the original and tough 350ci 5.7L V8 engine with tuned-port fuel injection (EFI) and puts out plenty of power with an excellent, deep exhaust note. The 4-speed automatic transmission is smooth, and the car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. The car is fully optioned with original 18” cast aluminium wheels, air conditioning, power steering, windows, seats and mirrors, power door locks, lumbar support seats, trip computer and more. Speedo, tacho, oil temperature and coolant temperature are all displayed digitally using advanced technology for 1987. The touch of a button changes the driver feedback from mph to kmph. All gauges and options are in working order excluding the power antenna. A premium Bose sound system has been installed. Since importation, the windscreen has been replaced, the seat belts changed to meet Australian standards, the serpentine belt has been replaced as have the battery and windscreen wiper arms and blades. Regularly maintained, the fuel-injection system has been cleaned and adjusted, the spark plugs and spark plug wires have been replaced, as well as the alternator, fuel pump, brake linings and hoses, the upper radiator hose and the exhaust and chrome tips. The air-conditioning has been recharged, and a four-wheel alignment has been done. Further work was done to the car’s trim, including replacements for the interior seals and the outside lower seals in both doors. The original owner’s manual is included, along with all import documentation. Tough, stylish and an absolute joy behind the wheel.
