Grace, pace and space is what exemplifies the Jaguar marque and the pinnacle of the brand, the XJR does this to a tee with classy looks, well proportioned body and sumptuous leather/wood interior.

The pinnacle of the XJ range was the XJR (code named X306). Using the XJ’s AJ16 engine, its power was increased to 321hp with 512nm of torque with the use of an Eaton M90 supercharger and a water to air intercooler giving a top speed electronically limited to 250km/h. The XJR was fitted with larger 17’ rims along with Pirelli P-Zero tires, upgraded suspension, taller differential and although a Getrag manual was standard, most XJR’s were fitted with the optional GM 4L80-e 4 speed auto.
Cosmetically, the XJR differed from lesser models with the deletion of most of the chrome work for a stealthier and sportier look consisting of body coloured grill surround with a mesh grill insert, body coloured boot plinth and matte black rain gutters and window surrounds, larger exhaust tips, special 5 spoke sport rims and of course “XJR” badging. Interiors of the XJR’s were also similarly special with perforated leather seat inserts with horizontal pleating & stiffer bolstering, perforated leather steering wheel and gorgeous Birds Eye Maple woodwork.
Despite the XJR being a much sportier option than its stable mates, emphasis was still on refinement and ride quality, being able to waft its passengers effortlessly through the countryside or burble along in traffic in complete serenity. Open the throttle however and the XJR’s party piece comes alive with the Eaton superchargers whine under bonnet intensifying as the revs and speed climb at a progressively fast rate.
