Daihatsu Midget 2 Watch as onlookers gasp with amazement, kids point and truck drivers laugh (in a good way – kinda) – This fun, quirky Daihatsu Midget 2 draws a lot of attention for something the size of a shoe! Sold to the Japanese domestic market as a (very) small pickup suited to carrying kegs around to local bars or for local delivery of goods – the Daihatsu Midget 2 was the only vehicle of its type in the Kei car category at the time. Being only 2.8 metres long and 1.3 metres wide, the Midget is perhaps the smallest pickup/ute ever made and probably small enough to fit into the back of most utes today! Despite the diminutive dimensions and power, load carrying capacity was 150kg and even came with a second seat as an optional extra! Propelling the Midget was a 660cc, 3 cylinder water cooled motor producing about 30hp. Though Arguments that the Midget couldn’t reach highway speeds, these reports were slightly exaggerated – it’ll do 110km/h – just. On the flip side, fuel consumption was just 3.6 Litres per 100km! The Midget 2 we have here was imported and complied a few years ago in Queensland and subsequently painted in Raptor Liner from the original Teal Blue colour with the intention to convert the rear tray into a mobile coffee van.
