Motorsport covers a broad range of vehicles, but the common thread is that they were either built from scratch specifically for competition use or have been modified from existing production vehicles to suit a particular form of motorsport competition.
When looking to buy a competition or motorsport vehicle in Australia, there are many categories to choose, from scratch-built competition vehicles like drag racers, sprint cars for dirt track ovals and off-road buggies, to modified production cars for tarmac circuits. This latter category is arguably the most popular in terms of competition and motorsport cars for sale in Australia and includes ‘touring car’ sedans, ‘gasser’ drag cars and hillclimbers.

Open-wheelers built to a specific competition “formula”, eg. Formula 5000, Formula Ford and Formula Vee, where a predetermined engine, chassis and mechanical spec is applied, can also be found for sale in the Australian market.
Other specialised motorsport machines include Sports Sedans and Sportscars, which like the Formula cars, are built to a certain set of rules, either using modified production vehicles or bespoke chassis and bodies. A newer example of this is the Aussie Racing Cars category, which combines motorcycle engines with a spaceframe chassis and scaled-down copies of production car bodies for go kart-like handling and performance.
Most motorsport and competition vehicles for sale in Australia, like the open wheelers and Aussie Racing Cars mentioned above, cannot be registered for road use. There are exceptions, though, like Rally Cars, which retain road legality to suit the requirements of the category.
All vehicles submitted for this category MUST be in complete or near complete condition (even if disassembled), to be suitable for listing. Groups of random parts and vehicles regarded as being beyond near-complete condition will not be listed.
