1967 Ford Mustang restomod – WIN THIS CAR
In these uncertain times, a lot of us are doing it tough, but in our own plight, we can’t forget the struggles of others, especially those who’ve served Australia in peace and war.
There are a number of ways to support former Australian Defence Force personnel, but one of the simplest is by buying a ticket – or two – in the Heroes on the Homefront raffle.
Heroes on the Homefront have secured this stunning Ford Mustang restomod to raffle in support of Aussie veterans – but the raffle’s closing soon.
Mustang – Shelby Style
The car up for grabs is a 1967 Ford Mustang fastback; a standout car in its own right, but this one’s been given the restomod treatment, with inspiration from the ‘Eleanor’ Shelby GT500 of Gone in 60 Seconds fame.
Under this car’s Shelby GT500 replica fibreglass bonnet, there’s a Ford Windsor 302 V8 that has been updated with electronic fuel injection, Cobra rocker covers and a GT40-style polished aluminium intake manifold. There’s also a K&N cold air intake, MSD ignition, upgraded radiator and a MoTeC ECU to bring this ’67 Mustang into the new millennium.
The good stuff doesn’t end there, though.
This car also features a tougher auto transmission and diff out of an F100, upgraded suspension all round (including air suspension in the rear) and later-model Mustang Cobra disc brakes and calipers.
Eleanor inspiration continues with a full Shelby bodykit, including the grille surround and lower front bumper, upper and lower rear quarter side scoops, plus Shelby striping, badging and those unforgettable GT500-style tail lights, while the rolling stock is made up of American Racing 17-inch ‘Eleanor’ alloys shod with Pirelli Dragon Sport tyres.
A custom grille insert and inboard auxiliary headlights complete the Shelby look, but there are enough differences here and in other areas to make this Mustang more than just an Eleanor clone - it’s very much its own beast!
Aussie Input
While most of this car’s mechanical and body modifications were completed in the US before it was imported to Australia, there has been some local input. That starts inside the cabin, where North Coast Custom Trim in QLD fitted an all-new interior – with a twist - that’s in harmony with the car’s modernized exterior.
A fully programmable Dakota Digital dash cluster and custom steering wheel also features, with modern comfort from air conditioning, power steering and a 4-speed auto transmission.
For further convenience, there’s also remote starting, a remote boot release and a Cobra anti-theft alarm for security.
Further local input came from Wrap Masters, also based in QLD, who added silver GT striping, edged with subtle red pinstripes, to complement the blacker-than-black exterior.
Aussie Support
Australian Defence Force veterans deserve a lot of recognition and support when their time of service ends, but they often don’t get it. That’s what led Heroes on the Homefront to step in.
Based in South Australia, Heroes on the Homefront (HotH), specializes in connecting ADF veterans to programmes and training to help them transition back into the community and adjust their skills to suit the civilian workforce.
HotH also support veterans’ families by holding events and assisting with access to services and support networks.
Heroes on the Homefront are raffling off this Mustang to raise funds for veterans and their families – see below for details on how to purchase tickets.
Aussie Spin
Earlier this year, Heroes on the Homefront’s supporters, Classics for a Cause, took the Mustang restomod for a spin at Willowbank Raceway – just to blow out the cobwebs!
With another restomod Mustang, restomod ’68 Pontiac Firebird and classic ’68 Dodge Charger for company, the ’67 Mustang was described as being a delight to drive, with the improved handling matching the power of the updated 302, while the interior comforts and conveniences are unlike anything that was available in 1967.
With its fresh interior, and all the modern bells and whistles, just sitting in this car makes you happy, but start her up and it’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
Valued at $200,000, this head-turning ’67 Mustang restomod could be yours for just $25. See below for your chance to win.
