Colour options revealed for 2024 Mustang
With the release of the seventh-generation Mustang getting closer, Ford has revealed the range of paint options that will be available for the upcoming new pony car, including two colours that are new for the coupe and one that’ll be exclusive to the range-topping, high-performance Mustang Dark Horse.
MY24 Mustang colour options for the US market include Shadow Black, Oxford White, Race Red, Rapid Red, Atlas Blue, Grabber Blue, Carbonised Grey, Dark Matter (grey), Iconic Silver, Yellow Splash, Vapor Blue and Blue Ember.
While the full palette for the Australian market hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’s highly likely that colours available on the current Mustang will carry over for the 2024 model, including Race Red, Carbonised Grey, Atlas Blue, Dark Matter, Grabber Blue, Oxford White and Shadow Black. Continuing these colours make sense, as they’ve been the most popular with local customers to date – especially Race Red.
However, in response to declining Mustang sales in Australia, niche colours from 2022, like Eruption Green, Mischievous Purple and Cyber Orange, were all dropped for the MY23 range, and it’s for the same reason that the full palette of US market colour options may not be offered locally when the seventh-generation Mustang arrives here from Q1, 2024.
The new additions for the USA start with Yellow Splash, which is exclusive to the MY24 Mustang coupe. This bold shade is a true canary yellow, compared to the green-tinted Yellow Peel that was offered previously, including in Australia, in 2021 and 2022.
The second new addition that’ll be exclusive to the MY24 Mustang coupe is Vapor Blue; a gunmetal shade with a heavy blue tint that has a more muscular look than the Antimatter Blue Ford has offered previously. While it’s new for the Mustang, Vapor Blue was previously available on the Mustang Mach-E SUV in the US.
Rapid Red is a colour that was available locally a recently as 2022 and returns as a subtler and more upmarket alternative to the existing Race Red. This rich, dark crimson shade is evocative of similar colours seen on the Dodge Challenger and (dare we say it) premium Mazdas.
Another colour for US-market MY24 Mustangs - that may or may not be coming to Australia - is Iconic Silver. Last offered here back in 2021, Iconic Silver is pretty much as its sounds; a typical light-silver metallic that sits below the familiar Carbonised Grey metallic and will arguably look better on Mustang convertibles than the coupes.
Finally, ‘Blue Ember’ metallic is exclusive to the Mustang Dark Horse and features special effect pigments – deep blue infused with warm amber – that give a colour shift effect when viewed from certain angles and under different lighting.
While Blue Ember will be exclusive to the Dark Horse, it won’t be the only colour this Mustang variant will be available in (at least in the US), with Oxford White, Shadow Black, Vapor Blue, Grabber Blue, Carbonised Grey, Dark Matter and Race Red also available. These options narrow to Shadow Black and Vapor Blue when the Dark Horse Appearance Package is selected.
Developed by the ‘Ford Color Mastering’ team, the pigments in Blue Ember are used in a higher volume than other paints to enhance the colour by reflecting light to create a “striking amber highlight" that looks different throughout varying light.
When the Mustang Dark Horse is released, special striping and decal options will be offered with this unique paint, along with Dark Horse-specific exterior trim.
Interior colour options on US market Mustangs for 2024 include Black Onyx and Space Grey, which will be available on all Ecoboost and GT variants. Harvest Bronze will be limited to the Ecoboost and GT Premium variant, while Carmine Red will be available only on the Ecoboost and GT Premium with Appearance Package.
For the all-new Mustang Dark Horse, only Black Onyx or two-tone Black Onyx and Indigo interior trim will be offered.
As with the paint options, all these interior colour options refer to the US market only and may not apply to Australian-delivered models. Further details on interior colours and other Mustang specs for the Aussie market will be announced closer to local arrival.
