First details of Perth Street Circuit revealed
Western Australia’s Labor Premier, the Hon. Roger Cook, has unveiled the initial plans for a street circuit and entertainment precinct at Perth’s Burswood Park that is expected to become the venue for Supercars in WA from 2027.
According to Cook, this new street circuit won’t be at the expense of Wanneroo Raceway, which he describes as the state’s premier racetrack and the heart and soul of motor racing in WA. Regular race meets will still be held at Wanneroo, with the proposed Perth Street Circuit reserved for “large, marquee events” like Supercars.
In addition to the street circuit, the $217.5 million precinct will include a function centre and 20,000-capacity outdoor music amphitheatre (similar to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne) as part of the infrastructure. It’s this multi-use capability that will generate tens of millions for the WA economy, according to Cook.
Development of the new precinct will be conditional on the Cook government being re-elected at the WA state election on 8 March. Should Labor return to power, works on the Burswood Park precinct will get underway this year and run into 2026, with the aim of having the street circuit complete and available for the 2027 Supercars season.
Utilising new and existing roads, the circuit will run between Perth Stadium and Crown Casino. Permanent grandstands, lighting to allow for night racing, a cycling track and function centre are also included in the plans, which will allow the Burswood Park precinct to be used year-round for a variety of events.
“The Perth Street Circuit will put WA on the global motorsports map,” Cook said. “It will turn the roads around Burswood Park into a racetrack, allowing around 50,000 people each day for a multi-day race event.
“We’ll deliver permanent grandstands and park upgrades, allowing the venue to be used year-round. Importantly, the racetrack will be under lights, allowing for night racing on the foreshore of the Swan River.
“Multi-use infrastructure means we can host other motorsport events, like Formula E and MotoGP, as well as live music festivals, cycling and running events.”
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship season gets underway with the Sydney 500 at Sydney Motorsport Park on 21-23 February. WA’s round for 2025, the Perth Super440, will be held at Wanneroo on 6-8 June.
