Peter Brock Trophy takes a roadtrip ahead of Bathurst 1000
Supercars have launched a new initiative ahead of this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000, with the ‘Peter Brock Trophy’ for the winners of the annual enduro going on a Melbourne Cup-style roadtrip all over the east coast. The roadtrip, officially known as the ‘Repco Bathurst 1000 Trophy Tour,’ is a first for Supercars and part of the build up to this year’s Great Race.
The roadtrip will see the Peter Brock Trophy head to various destinations, including rounds of the Repco Supercars Championship and Repco stores for fan engagements. Although the roadtrip officially commenced at the NTI Townsville 500 in July, the Peter Brock Trophy had already gone to Tasmania, the Northern Territory and even the USA, where Scott McLaughlin was reunited with the award he received for his Bathurst win alongside Alex Premat in 2019.
In addition to Townsville, the Repco Bathurst 1000 trophy had also visited the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight at SMP and the OTR SuperSprint at The Bend at time of writing. The next stop will be Victoria for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 on 15-17 September. Following an additional day at Sandown on 18 September, the trophy will go to Albury, Wagga Wagga, Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Orange and Bathurst, culminating in its arrival at Mount Panorama during race week, which this year commemorates the 60th anniversary of when Bathurst first held the ‘Armstrong 500’ enduro in 1963.
Supercars says the purpose of the Repco Bathurst 1000 Trophy Tour is to bring the coveted Peter Brock Trophy, the most sought-after piece of silverware in Australian motorsport, closer to fans = in regions between the two revered enduro events.
An accompanying digital series, presented by Repco, will feature exclusive interviews with past Bathurst 1000 winners and other motorsport legends who have triumphed at Mount Panorama. The series will also visit the hometowns of current Supercars drivers as they pursue their dream of one day lifting the Peter Brock Trophy.
"This is an incredible opportunity for fans to experience the magic of the Peter Brock Trophy up close and personal,” said Supercars CEO, Shane Howard.
“By taking the trophy on a roadshow from Sandown to Bathurst, we're ensuring that fans across Australia can be part of the excitement as we count down to the monumental 60th anniversary of the Repco Bathurst 1000.
“It's a unique celebration of the sport and the enduring legacy of Peter Brock."
Repco’s sponsorship of the tour, Supercars Championship and the Bathurst 1000 will also see the Peter Brock Trophy visit selected Repco stores, with Repco’s key assets seen at Supercars major events. Full details and special offers linked to the tour will be available on the Repco Garage.
Further details about each tour stop will be revealed as they draw nearer. There’s also the chance to win a one-off replica of the Peter Brock Trophy, plus tickets to this year’s Bathurst 1000. See the Repco Garage for more details.
