Seller's Description
It is a pleasure to offer for sale is one of the best examples of Jaguar’s breakthrough post-war models, the XK120. This is one of Australia’s best Jaguar XK120s with a history as an open-top, right-hand drive, Australian-delivered car and has the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Certificate No.46333. It was the subject to a restoration that was to an exacting standard and involved some of the country’s best craftsmen. The car was built on June 22, 1951 and dispatched to its first owner in Melbourne on July 14, 1951 where it spent its first 66 years before being purchased at the 2017 Motorclassica auction and brought to Perth. The restoration by the Melbourne owner involved a change from the original Pastel Green paintwork with Suede Green interior trim and Sand soft top to Old English White with blue leather interior trim with a matching navy-blue cloth soft–top. The high standard of the restoration is reflected in the craftsmen, with paintwork by Harley Wrigley (one of the team at Re-Creation in Lilydale, Victoria) and body restoration by Dennis Robertson and trim by Peter Buszko using quality materials from Classic and European. The engine has been comprehensively overhauled by Mike Roddy with improvements to boost performance including: set of wide rods; full set of larger valves; Series 3 camshafts; lightened flywheel; a full balance; polished aluminium components; new clutch plates and thrust bearing; and a modern alternator. The car retains its original four-speed manual gearbox. Upgrades during the restoration include bucket seats which offer an additional 150mm (6-inches) of legroom. It also has the original flat seat backs that have been re-trimmed in blue leather and have specially-shaped foam padding. It has a period 16-inch Motolita steering wheel and the sale includes the original restored black steering wheel. Other inclusions are the original workshop manual; a reproduction handbook; correct-period Lucas accessory fog lights; blue cloth tonneau cover; complete tool kit with correct jack, wheel brace and foot pump; and a set of two pieces of fitted luggage in matching blue leather designed to fit the boot. Subsequent to its move to WA, it has been the subject of $10,000 of additional “tidy-up” work by specialists Memory Lane in Perth. The car is beautiful to look at and drives just as well. The engine is almost inaudible at idle and silky smooth at speed. It has been documented in the book “The XK120 in the Southern Hemisphere" by John Elmsgreen and Terry McGrath. The chassis number is 660827 and the engine number is W3413-7. This vehicle can be inspected in Perth. Additional photographs are available. A walk-around video can be arranged. Transport to any buyer location and inspection reports can be arranged at buyer cost.
