Ferrari concours event coming to Sydney
Ferrari Australasia have announced an all-new concours event – Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza Sydney - devoted exclusively to cars from the famous ‘Prancing Horse’.
The event is expected to attract more than 50 cars, covering the breadth of Ferrari production - from classics to the latest models. Ferrari owners from Australia and New Zealand are welcome to enter the concours, provided their cars are authentic, in good condition and perfect working order.
UPDATE: The originally scheduled dates of 29 Nov-1 Dec 2024 for this event have been changed to a TBC date in 2025 – see below.
The inaugural Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza will be held at the Palm Beach Golf Club (approx. one hour north of Sydney’s CBD), with the club’s waterfront lawns the ideal venue to showcase a cross-section of the finest Ferraris from Australia and New Zealand.
Ferrari Australasia are partnering with Cavallino Inc. to present the Sydney event, which will follow the format of similar Ferrari-only concours conducted in the USA, Italy and the United Arab Emirates. Cavallino Inc., the brand behind the bi-monthly ‘Cavallino’ Ferrari magazine first published more than 40 years ago, has organised these exclusive events, as Cavallino Classic, since 1992.
The upcoming concours will not only be a first for Australia, but also be the first to be conducted by Cavallino Classic anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere.
“We are thrilled to introduce Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza Sydney for the Ferrari community in our region,” said Jan Hendrik Voss, President of Ferrari Australasia.
“Its position late in the calendar and the relaxed setting of Palm Beach make this a perfect moment for us to gather with clients and fans and celebrate another exciting year together, surrounded by some of this region’s finest Ferrari vehicles.”
Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza will be open to the general public, with single-day entry $600/person. A 50 per cent discount applies for Under 25s, with free entry for children under 14 accompanying a paying adult. VIP Weekend packages are also available.
(NOTE: the first day will be limited to Ferrari owners and VIP guests only. The following two days are open to the public).
The concours format, as set by Cavallino Inc., will include competitive judging by an independent panel of highly qualified experts. Following evaluation, honours will be awarded to the leading vehicles within each category.
Concours categories are as follows:
1. Supercars – open to GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo. LaFerrari, as a ‘young timer’, will be accepted for non-competitive display
2. V8 – open to all Ferrari V8 models, up to the 360 Modena
3. V12 – open to all Ferrari V12 models, up to the 550 Maranello
4. Limited Series – open to 550 Barchetta Pininfarina, 575 SuperAmerica, 348 GTC and 360 Challenge Stradale
5. Testarossa – a special class celebrating the model’s 40th anniversary in 2024, open to all variants, including the 512TR and 512M
Two further categories, showcasing modern icons, will also be a part of Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza.
1. Icona – open to Monza SP1/SP2 and Daytona SP3.
2. Special & Limited Series – open to limited production Ferrari models, such as the 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale, 488 Pista, 599 GTO, F12 TdF, 812 Competizione and more.
While these two classes will be eligible for the People’s Choice award, they fall outside the age bracket for concours judging.
Under Cavallino rules, cars scoring at least 97 out of 100 points in concours judging will be acknowledged with a Platinum Award. From those, class winners and the coveted Best of Show will be selected. Every award winner will be recognised at a special presentation dinner.
Beyond the cars, Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza will feature Italian-themed food and beverages from some of Sydney’s finest providores, along with champagne tastings and an Aperol Spritz Bar. Live entertainment, garden games and educational symposiums are also on the programme, along with putting masterclasses on the Palm Beach greens.
Special guests have the option to fly to the concours by seaplane, capitalising on the opportunity to enjoy scenic views of Sydney Harbour and the northern beaches before landing at an exclusive Casa Ferrari hospitality venue neighbouring the golf club.
UPDATE: The following statement was released by Ferrari Australasia on 18/11/24 concerning a date change for Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza Sydney.
Recently, Ferrari Australasia announced Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza Sydney, a prestigious showcase of vehicles fostering passion for the brand.
Our objective is to display the finest examples in our region and, since the announcement, we have received new interest from owners of significant Ferrari vehicles seeking to enter for competitive judging. The inclusion of these Ferraris is important for the event, however, this has presented unforeseen logistical requirements and challenges.
In the interest of ensuring the inaugural event meets our objectives, it is our decision to postpone Ferrari Concorso d’Eleganza Sydney until the first half of 2025. A further update will be sent as soon as possible.
