It was acquired from a classic car collector in Melbourne. During his ownership the vehicle underwent light modifications to be able to qualify for CAMS racing.
Porsche introduced the 550 Spyder at the 1953 Paris Auto Show to show stopping acclaim. It was unlike anything Porsche or other manufacturers had produced before and is largely accredited as being the first production road-going race car as it was originally designed for races such as Le Mans and Mille Miglia.
The model rose to infamy in 1955 after legendary actor James Dean was killed in his 550 Spyder after a high-speed accident. It featured a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine which produced 110bhp and a top speed of 220km/h.
Today it presents in very good overall condition and presents an excellent opportunity as an addition being a very high-quality recreation of an iconic Porsche.
