Chicane Auctions is proud to present this exceptionally rare and highly collectible 1973 Ford XA GT RPO83 Hardtop, a standout example of Australian muscle car royalty.
One of just 120 RPO83 Hardtops ever produced, this car represents the pinnacle of Fords performance heritage rarer than the revered XY Phase III and regarded by many in the GT community as a superior survivor in scarcity and specification.
This particular vehicle is a previous GT Nationals - Best Overall Restored winner, having undergone a full nut and bolt, bare metal concourse restoration to the highest possible standard by the late Neil Thompson of Grand Tourer Restorations, one of the most respected names in the GT world.
Under the bonnet sits its matching numbers 351ci Cleveland V8, retaining its correct RPO83 Holley 780 CFM carburetor and Hand-fabricated exhaust headers, developed specifically for the GT HO by Ford and HM Headers for ATCC Homologation, featured big 2.25-inch primaries, matched to a larger diameter and freer-flowing secondary exhaust system.
This engine was rebuilt by Neil Thompson himself, featuring upgraded solid cam and roller rockers.
The driveline and suspension has been predominantly rebuilt to an exceptional standard: the Top Loader gearbox was inspected and reassembled with new seals, while the rebuilt 9-inch differential was reassembled with a solid spacer, new seals, new LSD clutch packs and bearings, ensuring long-term performance.
Finished in stunning factory-correct Walnut Glow Metallic, with a black vinyl roof and matching black-out bonnet, together with beautifully contrasting Parchment interior in perfect condition, this XA GT exudes 1970s style and muscle in equal measure.
Delivered new through Bethel Ford in Horsham, this car is presented with extensive provenance, including a Ford Letter of Authenticity, ACCHS report, receipt file of full restoration from Grand Tourer and a detailed catalogue of supporting paperwork.
Its history and presentation have earned it high praise within the GT community, where it is acknowledged as one of the finest RPO83s in existence.
