The stunning design of the two-door “Cat” has turned collector attention to the model and led to prices jumping significantly in recent years, intensified by the XJ-C becoming increasingly rare. This extremely low mileage, excellent condition example is original and never been restored. It is finished in Yellow with a factory black vinyl roof, has two previous owners but it has travelled almost as far locked in a ship’s container than it has under its own power on the road. The 1977 Jaguar XJ-C has only about 30,000 miles (about 48,000km) on its odometer, all genuine, yet after being delivered to its first owner in Cheshire, England in early 1977, it found its second owner and travelled to New York in 2011, before returning to the UK in 2015 and then to meet its third owner in Perth - that’s about 33,000km on water. It is in excellent condition, has a heritage certificate and has been the recipient of car club awards during its life including a 99.65 per cent rating at Jaguar Clubs of North America’s New Jersey concours in 2013. The coupe is based on the XJ sedan but has 101mm cut from the floorpan. It has longer doors without window frames and when the four windows are retracted, has a sleek hardtop “pillarless” look. Features include walnut veneer dashboard and a perfectly-preserved Sanyo radio-cassette player that was standard fitment in the late 1970s. It has a 4.2-litre in-line twin-cam six-cylinder engine with two SU carburettors ad mated to a three-speed automatic. Jaguar never made an XJ-C convertible - though specialist coach works Avon and Lynx Cars obliged - and made 6505 examples of the coupe with the six-cylinder engine and a further 1873 with the V12 engine, including those branded Daimler. Production ceased in 1978 and the car was succeeded by the Jaguar XJS. This vehicle can be inspected in Perth. Additional photographs are available on request.
