Lamborghini create ‘SC18’
Built to customer order by Squadra Corse, with input from Lamborghini’s Centro Stile in-house design studio, the SC18 is road-legal, but was created specifically for use on the racetrack. Powered by the same tweaked V12 used in the Aventador SVJ, the SC18 puts out 574kW (770hp) at 8500rpm and 720Nm of torque (531lb/ft) at 6750rpm.
The ‘Independent Shifting Rod’ optimized seven-speed gearbox delivers all that power to all four wheels, while a model-specific exhaust system provides what Lamborghini says is a unique design and sound. Top speed and 0-100km/h times have not been revealed, but with the SVJ completing that sprint in 2.8 seconds, the SC18 would most likely beat that.
On top of the high-performance engine, Squadra Corse have also added “extreme” aerodynamic elements that are said to be unique to this model and derived from Squadra Corse's experience in competition. The bonnet carries air intakes in the style of the Huracán GT3 EVO racer, while the rear features quarter panels, fins and air-scoops inspired by the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO.
Also at the rear, the engine cover features twelve air intakes - applied after successful testing in endurance races – to improve cooling of the V12 engine. The SC18’s aerodynamic makeover is completed with a large carbon fibre wing that Lamborghini says is able to generate optimal downforce on any circuit and features three levels of mechanical adjustability.
A full carbon fibre body, finished in ‘Grigio Daytona’ (Daytona Grey) with visible carbon elements, is said to make the SC18 substantially lighter than the Aventador it’s based on, and while Lamborghini didn’t reveal an actual weight figure, they did say the one-off has a ground clearance of just 109mm.
Complementing the grey finish is a red upper-body coachline and red trim for selected air intakes and exhaust vents, with centre-lock wheels (20-inch on the front and 21-inch on the rear) and specially-developed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres completing the exterior changes. Inside, the SC18 has been trimmed in Nero Ade (black) Alcantara with cross-stitching in Rosso Alala (red), with race-spec carbon fibre bucket seats fitted and a telemetry system added to measure all aspects of the SC18’s performance on the track.
